Summer is just around the corner, June brings warmer weather, the end of overnight frosts and longer days. June is always an exciting month for British Fresh Produce, with plenty of soft fruits coming into season and a wide array of delicious British vegetables. Unfortunately, June does signal the end of the British Asparagus season, however we will have plenty of fresh produce being harvested over the month from our own farms and local growers to make up for this.

Fresh Produce: Hello June

This month there is an abundance of Fresh Produce being harvested from our farms in the Vale of Evesham. We will still be seeing some of last month’s favourites, including Black Cabbage, Spring Cabbage, Purple Sprouting, Rhubarb, Baby Vegetables, Beetroot, Spinach, Rainbow Chard, Radish (Cherry Belle, French Breakfast and Mixed) and Coriander. We are particularly proud of our baby beetroot and turnips, this year they are looking consistently spectacular and taste divine.  Following the end on the ‘Hungry gap’, we are looking forward to welcoming back Savoy Cabbages, Spring Cabbages, Leeks and Red & Green Kale. We are also very excited as our farms will be harvesting several crops for the first time this year, including Stem Broccoli, Broad Beans, Courgettes, Courgette Flowers, Marrows, Peas, Baby Fennel, Fennel and Parsley, so keep your eyes peeled for these!

The local strawberry growers at Oaklands Fruit Farm picked their first UK strawberries last month, and they looked phenomenal. We have seen small quantities of their punnets arriving at our stock over the past couple of weeks. Wye Valley Strawberries have also begun to trickle in over the past couple of weeks, again looking incredible. Availability of both is set to increase over June, meaning the British strawberry season will be well underway.

This month marks the start of the raspberry and blueberry season, availability is set to increase over the month. The local Raspberries from Wye Valley Produce are sweet in taste, vibrant in colour and delicious. The UK Raspberry season runs from June until late September, although in previous years we have been lucky to see raspberries harvested until early November!! The UK Blueberry season tends to run from June until October. All Wye Valley fruit is hand-picked, chilled and then packaged on the same day to ensure that it retains maximum freshness and flavour.

Last month we welcomed in the first of this year’s local tomatoes from Haven Nurseries. Located in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside, the Drew family are experts in tomatoes, and have been growing tomatoes for over 50 years at Haven Nurseries. They have perfected their methods, and this year’s tomatoes look immaculate, smell divine and their flavour is out of this world. We are currently able to get out hands on Vine, Cherry Vine, Cocktail Vine, Golden Vine, Plum, Tigerella and Yellow Cherry varieties. If there are any varieties that you specifically require, please get in touch with our Sales Office.

Unfortunately, towards the end of this month the UKs asparagus season will end, the household favourite from Wye Valley has been simply magnificent this season. We will continue to stock traditional green, purple and white UK asparagus from Wye Valley produce until harvesting ends, so make the most of it whilst you can!

Next month we look forward to welcoming even more crops from our farms including Red & White Cabbage, Fresno Chillies and most excitingly, plums!! As the summer months draw closer, the abundance of UK Fresh Produce will increase, please keep your eyes on our social medias to be the first to know about UK Fresh Produce coming into stock.
