This summer has flown by far too quickly; September unfortunately marks the end of summer berries, but there is plenty of other English produce available this month to make up for that, including plums, apples and squash! This month we have a large array of produce arriving directly from our farms and even more from other growers across the UK.

Fresh Produce: Hello September

Our farms specialise in year-round brassica production, this month we will be harvesting all the same favourites from last month, including Black Cabbage, Savoy Cabbage, Kale, Purple Sprouting and Stem Broccoli to name but a few. Vegetable production from our farm will look very similar to last month, with the addition of our varieties of squash, including Crown Prince Squash, Gem Squash, Onion Squash and pumpkins. Not forgetting our sweetcorn husks arriving fresh from the farm. Our favourite way to prepare these is by peeling the leaves back, and twisting them at the end, and then wrapping them in foil and burying them in the embers of a BBQ – delicious!!

Our nurseries have expanded over the years from just 2 glasshouse sites to now over 9 acres of glass housing. The glasshouses provide a wide range of salads and exotic vegetables, with chillies being 50% of the crop. Our chilli varieties range from simple red and green chillies, to those with a bit more of a kick like Birdseye chilli, all the way through to the extra spicy Naga chillies. Contact the office to find out which chillies we have available from our farm at the moment.

September sees the end of the summer berries, however there is plenty more English fruit being harvested. The English plum season is well underway, we are harvesting many varieties from our farm, including Victoria Plums, Victory plums, Marjorie Seed plums and Damsons. We will also be harvesting some of our pears, including Green and Red Comice Pears and Conference Pears. Our Apples are also ready for harvesting, including Cox Apples, Howgate Apples and Bramley Apples. This means that it’s time for those Autumn crumbles, you can’t beat an apple or plum crumble with lashings of custard or even a dollop of ice cream!

Next month unfortunately we will see some more summer produce dropping off and coming to an end such as our marrows and plums, so make the most of them whilst you can! Please keep your eyes on our social medias to be the first to know about the UK Fresh Produce we have in stock. For further information please contact the sales office or your account manager.
